Tariff Threat Impacts on Manufacturing: Chaos and Uncertainty
Feb. 6, 2025
Tariff-driven instability in the supply chain could drive manufacturers to reshore production.
Massive tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods, announced by President Donald Trump on Saturday only to be delayed by Monday, drove pricing and trade speculation this week with many manufacturers wondering how stable the trade environment will be in the near future.
With that in mind, Electronic Design, a publication owned by IndustryWeek parent company Endeavor Business Media, gathered editors this week to discuss how the threat of tariffs and the quick revocation of them is affecting business decision making.
Chaos and uncertainty are the orders of the day, and that may be by design. Companies looking for certainty under the Trump Administration's policy have one clear path – reshoring as much production as possible to the United States and use U.S. suppliers whenver possible.
Editors discussing the topics were:
(Moderator) Bill Wong, editor-in-chief and senior content director for Electronic Design
Sara Jensen, executive editor of Power & Motion, a publication that focuses on pneumatics, hydraulics and other power distribution systems
