LAGOS, Nigeria -- Britain-based drinks giant SABMiller's (IW 1000/206) Nigerian subsidiary said today it is investing $110 million to expand its brewery in the southeast of the country.
Intafact Beverages, which brews Hero Lager, said the money will help triple annual capacity from 700,000 to 2.1 million hectolitres and would create 400 jobs, taking the workforce to 700.
SABMiller's Nigeria managing director, Simon Harvey, said in a statement on the company's website that the investment "demonstrates our ongoing commitment in the country."
The brewery in Onitsha, Anambra state, was commissioned in August 2012 with an initial investment of more than $100 million.
The London- and Johannesburg-listed company brews more than 200 beer brands, including Grolsch, Nastro Azzurro and Miller Lite, and employs about 70,000 employees in more than 75 countries worldwide.
