GE announced on Nov. 6 it has joined The Business Leaders Initiative on Human Rights (BLIHR).
"GE, through its policies and practices, promotes the advancement of fundamental human rights," said Bob Corcoran, vice president of Corporate Citizenship. "We look forward to working together with BLIHR's other 13 member companies toward the principal objective of finding 'practical ways of applying the aspirations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights within a business context and to inspire other businesses to do likewise.'"
The Business Leaders Initiative on Human Rights was founded in May 2003 by seven companies: ABB Ltd, Barclays plc, MTV Networks Europe, National Grid plc, Novartis Foundation for Sustainable Development, Novo Nordisk and The Body Shop International plc. During 2004, Hewlett-Packard Company, Statoil and Gap Inc. joined the initiative. In June 2006 Alcan Inc. and AREVA joined.
The group's stated objective is to find "practical ways of applying the aspirations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights within a business context and to inspire other businesses to do likewise."
