Volvo Trucks North America and the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract, bringing an end to a strike at the company’s New River Valley truck plant in Dublin, Va.
The new five-year contract would cover approximately 2,900 employees at the facility, according to a news release issued April 30 by the truck manufacturer. Workers are scheduled to return to their regular shifts on May 3, the UAW website indicates.
UAW workers at the Dublin plant have been on strike since mid-April, after the two sides failed to reach an agreement on a new contract by March 16.
Details of the proposed contract are being withheld pending ratification by UAW Local 2069 members, according to Volvo Trucks North America. The UAW said details will be withheld until the UAW members are briefed, although the union described the agreement as providing “significant gains” on its website.
“Out of respect for our members, we will refrain from discussing details publicly until the membership at Volvo Truck can be fully briefed. Ultimately it is our members’ contract, and UAW Volvo Truck members that will make this final decision as they vote,” said Mitchell Smith, director of UAW Region 8
