Is Technology the Way to Get Supply Chains Back on Track?
Two years out from MODEX 2020, the supply chain conference cancelled three days in due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the supply chain landscape is dramatically changed. When the conference returned at the end of March 2022, its focus on disrupting supply chains for competitive advantage had turned to the question of how to fix supply chains disrupted by the pandemic and unforeseen circumstances.
The 2022 MHI Annual Report, a survey of supply chain leaders and specialists, found that supply chain shortages and disruptions overtook hiring as the top issue for companies today for the first time in the survey’s eight-year history.
Survey results suggest that technology may take a key role. The report, produced in collaboration with Deloitte Consulting, also found that two-thirds of respondents expect their companies to spend more than $1 million on supply chain technologies over the next two years. Some of the more popular technologies among survey respondents were cloud computing, sensors and automatic identification, predictive and prescriptive analytics, and the industrial internet of things.
