Microsoft Introduces Plug And Play RFID

"Beta" release of BizTalk Server 2006 program upgrades RFID, EDI support.

Microsoft's BizTalk Server 2006 Release 2 features an upgraded level of support for RFID, bringing the "plug and play" ethos used for computer peripherals to bear on the problem of how best to handle the huge volumes of data produced by these track-and-trace systems.

To make interoperability easier, Microsoft built a device interface into Release 2 for which device manufacturers can design drivers, and has developed a way to process the continually-generated RFID data that filters it at the device level (as well as in layers on the server) and keeps the data from overloading plant floor computing systems.

The new BizTalk release also features an upgraded EDI interface for manufacturers who still use this older technology in operations.
