Based on the success of managing its own supply chain, IBM is offering advice to other companies through a newly formed supply-chain business transformation outsourcing practice.
With $3.4 trillion spent on supply chains in 2005 IBM is targeting the 49% of companies who report that managing the supply chain is not a core competency, according to a study by IDC, a Framingham, Ma.-based research firm.
IBM is currently doling out value chain advice to clients including; BP, the U.S. Postal Service, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Honeywell, Metro Group and the New York Stock Exchange.
