Updated: Accelera by Cummins, Daimler Truck, PACCAR Choose Mississippi for Battery Cell Joint Venture

A look into the billions of dollars being invested in new battery plants and expansions in recent years.

Location: Liberty, North Carolina

Investment: $13.9 billion

Following a $2.1 billion expansion earlier this year, Toyota has announced an additional $8 billion investment at Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina, bringing the total investment to $13.9 billion; the investment also brings the total job creation to over 5,000. The announcement of eight additional BEV/PHEV battery lines creates a total of 10 BEV/PHEV battery lines; the plant will also have four battery lines for HEVs, as originally announced. Production is set to begin in 2025 and will be increased in a phased approach. The 7 million square-foot campus is slated to reach a total production of more than 30GWh annually.
