A delegation from South Korean auto manufacturer Hyundai began talks with officials in Prague on Jan. 23 over the possible siting of the company's first European plant in the Czech Republic, officials said.
Hyundai has said that it intends to invest around 1 billion euros in a new plant employing around 3,000 with a capacity of around 300,000 cars a year once production is launched by the target date of the end of 2008.
The issue of a motorway linking the industrial zone at Nosovice, in the east of the Czech Republic, which is ready to host the new plant, and the Slovak town of Zilina, where a car plant for Hyundai subsidiary KIA, is already under construction, is also a subject for discussion.
As well as the Czech Republic, reports say Poland and Turkey are also in the running for the Hyundai plant.
