General Electric's aircraft leasing unit announced at the Farnborough airshow on July 19 that it has placed an order for 100 planes from Boeing and Airbus.
GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) has ordered 40 Boeing 737-800s in a $3 billion deal, the companies said.
"Over the years, GECAS has successfully leased many 737s to airlines around the world," said GECAS chief executive Norman C.T. Liu.
GECAS also said it was also ordering 60 Airbus A320 planes with a catalogue price of $4.5 billion.
