Product Development Solutions

Oct. 14, 2009
New and improved product development tools can help product developers and R&D personnel do their jobs better. Recent advances include the following introductions:

Agile PLM for Process 6.0 adds new capabilities to help food-and-beverage manufacturers comply with complex and changing regulatory environments. Recently unveiled by Oracle, the product includes integrated formula and label development, embedded compliance and traceability tools, and new user interface tools. An improved compliance screening tool analyzes recipes for compliance against multiple government regulations, while an impact-analysis and change-management dashboard identifies and traces products affected by recipe or packaging changes, and initiates change-management processes for all relevant products. www.oracle.com/plm

Simulation software provider Ansys has announced the release of HFSS 12.0, its 3-D full-wave electromagnetic field simulation technology. The tool helps engineers design, simulate and validate the behavior of high-performance radio frequency, microwave and millimeter-wave devices. A key enhancement, the company explains, is domain decomposition, a technique that exploits high-performance computing capabilities to solve electromagnetic field problems of a size and scope not possible before. www.ansys.com

Omnify Software has released version 4.5 of its Empower PLM software solution. Key new features include a bill-of-material routing module as well as a help desk module. The BOM module allows users to document manufacturing, assembly, inspection and test procedures for all products and tie the information directly to the appropriate product record. The help desk module is a collaboration portal to capture and track discussions around items such as corrective actions, engineering change orders and the like. www.omnifysoft.com

SolidWorks 2010 from Dassault Systemes SolidWorks includes a wealth of enhancements across the entire product line, including for CAD, simulation, data management and documentation. Additionally, sustainability software helps users determine the carbon footprint, energy consumption, and air and water impact in a product design's raw material sourcing, manufacture, use, and disposal. Users also can compare multiple design iterations for sustainability concerns. www.solidworkslaunch.com
