Hewlett-Packard said on Sept. 13 that it has agreed to buy security software firm ArcSight for $1.5 billion, the second major acquisition by the company in the past few weeks.
Palo Alto, California-based HP said it was offering $43.50 per share for the Cupertino, California-based ArcSight, a maker of software designed to help lessen cyber risks for businesses and government agencies.
HP said the acquisition "will provide customers the ability to proactively monitor real-time events, assess risks and respond quickly to threats."
"ArcSight's superior technology is highly complementary to HP's existing security portfolio of hardware, software and services," HP said.
HP, the world's largest computer maker, said it expected the acquisition to close by the end of the calendar year.
Earlier this month, HP emerged the winner in a bidding war with Dell for data storage company 3PAR.
