IK Multimedia, a provider of mobile music-creation apps and accessories for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, announced last week that it has opened a new manufacturing facility in Modena, Italy.
The new facility will produce the company’s range of mobile accessories on highly automated lines. Assembly, inspection and quality testing functions will also be automated.
With the addition of the new factory, the company expects that by the end of 2012, over 50% of the one-million-plus units of hardware it produces annually will be “Made in Italy.”
“In today’s global economy, it’s rare to hear of jobs being brought back to a manufacturer’s country of origin, but IK was able to do so by leveraging the skills and traditions of its native territory,’ the company said in a statement.
IK Multimedia has its headquarters in Modena. The city, located in Northern Italy, is known for its manufacturing capabilities, especially in the auto section. It is home to manufacturing operations for Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini and Ducati. The region also specializes in advanced electronics, precision mechanics and plastic molding.
