Motorcycle maker Yamaha said on Jan. 27 that it will close its factory in northeastern Spain due to falling global demand for its vehicles.
The closure of the plant at Palau-Solita i Plegamans near Barcelona will affect nearly 420 workers, with production moved to another Yamaha factory at Saint-Quentin in northern France, the company said.
"All over the world, and Europe in particular, there has been a prolonged fall in sales figures which forces Yahama to take steps to restructure its industrial capacity," it said.
The company said it was concentrating production in Europe at just one factory due to "excess production capacity."
Yamaha will still keep its commercial headquarters in Spain at Palau-Solita i Plegamans.
