PPG Total Services Solutions has struck a deal that will see it manage non-core paint shop activities at Toyota Motor Manufacturing de Baja California (TMMBC) in Tijuana, Mexico. The program begins in January 2004 upon completion of the automotive facility. As part of the three-year outsourcing deal, PPG Total Services Solution will be responsible for all indirect chemicals for the coatings application process, providing just-in-time delivery of all paint-shop products and managing the paint mix room, detackification, pretreatment and electrocoat processes. As part of the deal, PPG will provide the facility with a program manager as a single point of contact for the plant, as well as a full-time, on-site staff to oversee day-to-day operations of the program. PPG Total Service Solutions, based in Troy, Mich., implements turnkey outsourcing programs for manufacturers and operates more than 100 service programs.
