Following on the heels of a rash of Internet attacks and a recent White House conference on Internet security, ICSA.net, a Reston, Va.-based provider of security assurance services, announced the formation of the Alliance for Internet Security. This organization of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and industry professionals has released guidelines to aid companies in identifying and solving security problems, such as the recent Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks shutting down access to popular retail Internet sites. Specific steps recommended in the security guidelines include adding additional layers of defense by reconfiguring routers and firewalls and the denial of IP-related broadcasts on perimeter routes. More information about the alliance, an updated list of members, information about DDoS attacks, and a complete list of the guidelines for security can be found at www.icsa.net.
