Seventy-five percent of the largest 1,000 companies in Asia (ranked by sales revenue) have established Web sites, according to a recent survey conducted by IDC Asia/Pacific, a subsidiary of International Data Corp., an IT consultancy and marketing-research company in Framingham, Mass. This is up from 57% in October 1997, when IDC conducted their first study of corporate Web-site adoption in Asia.
"In just eight months there has been an 18% increase in the number of Web sites created by large corporations in Asia," said Pete Hitchen, IDC Asia/Pacific senior Internet analyst. "The importance of the Internet as a business tool is rapidly gaining wide acceptance in Asia's corporate culture." In comparison, about 81% of the U.S. companies (with more than 100 employees) have established Web sites, according to IDC.
