When talking to people just starting their professional lives, a common question is, “How did you get to where you are?” A simple sounding question, but career paths are complicated and rarely linear. There are millions of ways to get from junior management trainee to CEO, and each journey is different.
So, rather than try to answer the question directly, IndustryWeek put together a panel of experts—young managers who have advanced quickly early in their careers to seasoned professionals with decades of lived experience. The 13-member (and hopefully growing) Talent Advisory Board contains representatives from massive companies and one-person shops.
What members all have in common is that, sometime in the past year, they impressed an IndustryWeek editor with their keen insights into the challenges that people face when choosing between the different opportunities ahead of them.
Every month, we plan to ask this panel a question about their careers in the hopes that their answers will provide guidance to people who may need some wide guidance. Next week, we’ll present answers to the first of our questions, “What is the best piece of career advice you received within your first five years on the job in your current industry?”
Several of our board members, including Dow’s Despina Anastasiou and Stanley Black & Decker’s Audrey Van de Castle, will also join us next Thursday at noon (eastern) for our Production Pulse livestream to discuss the best career advice they received.
