BorgWarner to Invest $62 Million to Boost Electrification Capabilities
Automotive supplier BorgWarner’s new expansion projects are set to create more than 300 jobs with $42 million to expand its Seneca, South Carolina, production facility, and $20 million to expand three existing Michigan-based facilities as well as developing a new EV battery service center.
With expansion expected to begin in the second quarter of 2023, the investment for the South Carolina facility will go towards the development of manufacturing lines to produce 3 GWh annual battery module capacity. Funds will also be allocated for building and equipment upgrades.
The Michigan investment is slated to accelerate the production and testing of EV products and charging infrastructure at its Auburn Hills, Dearborn and Hazel Park facilities. The company will also develop a separate 100,000 square-foot facility into a battery service center that will focus on testing, diagnostics and training. To support the Michigan projects, BorgWarner received a $1.86 million grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
