FRANKFURT -- Chemicals giant BASF (IW 1000/33) said Thursday it is teaming up with Malaysian partner Petronas Chemicals Group to invest $500 million in an aroma ingredients production facility.
The plant, to be built in Gebeng, will be operational in 2016 and employ 110 people.
BASF is one of the leading producers of aroma ingredients worldwide and its products range from geraniol, citronellol, linalool and L-menthol.
Aroma ingredients are sold to the flavor and fragrance industry, and are used mainly in home and personal care products and fine fragrances, as well as in the food industry and in pharmaceutical applications, BASF said.
