Remote Service: Optimizing Spare Parts Inventory for Manufacturers
Manufacturers have long been focused on keeping costs low -- but in tight economic times, cutting costs becomes even more important. High levels of service parts inventories are a result of the unique challenges of the service supply chain, which has characteristics unique to the finished goods supply chain. These characteristics include varied service commitments, intermittent demand that is difficult to forecast, extended global networks with reverse logistics flows, and a large volume of parts with long product lifecycles.
