HAMBURG: German software company SAP AG will start the marketing of its own database software this autumn, according to an advance release of a report in German business magazine
Wirtschaftswoche. SAP chief Hasso Plattner wants to prevent U.S. competitor Oracle from benefiting from many SAP installations by offering its database software, the report said. When SAP's R/3 software is installed company-wide, new databases must be installed at the same time. Most of these come from Oracle. SAP now plans to start offering its customers its own database software, Adabas D, the report said.
