Large organizations will use electronic processing techniques to cut the percentage of forms they handle entirely on paper by 20% over the next three years, according to a study from Kinetic Information, a research and consulting firm in Waltham, Mass. This decline will leave the paper-based processing load in 2001 at just one-third the level it was in 1996, and the market for e-forms and workflow technology will grow 46% per year for the next three years. "Driven by customers' desire to build Internet, intranet, and extranet applications that feature comfortable forms-like interfaces, this growth will be fueled by the sale of new systems, not the replacement of older implementations," says research analyst Steve Weissman.
