Volunteer Programs Seen As 'Points Of Light' The Points of Light Foundation, Washington, D.C., has selected seven companies to receive the 1998 Award for Excellence in Corporate Community Service. Since their establishment in 1993, the awards have recognized and honored companies that have maintained outstanding employee volunteer programs.
"Corporations today are realizing the value and benefit of employee volunteering and fully appreciating its impact on the community, the employees, and ultimately the company," says Robert K. Goodwin, president and CEO of the Points of Light Foundation. The companies honored this year have provided examples of strategically planned and managed programs benefiting their companies' bottom lines, he says.
The recipients of the 1998 Awards for Excellence in Corporate Community Service are: The Home Depot, Samsung Group, Southwest Gas Corp., The Timberland Co., Time Warner Inc., United Technologies Corp., and the Yakima Herald-Republic.
