Tesla's promise to open up its supercharger network instantly created opportunities for rival automakers to provide convenient EV charging for their vehicles. In the past month, several major automakers have announced plans to adopt Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) plugs.
Executives with charging station manufacturer Flo say there are some technical hurdles to clear to make to support NACS for existing and future EV drivers, but they won't be terribly difficult to solve. It's less VHS vs. Betamax and more USB-C vs. Apple's Lightning connector standards for cell phones. The plugs are specific to the devices, but adapters are cheap and easy to produce.
