Honda’s newest crossover utility vehicle has gone into mass production, as the Accord Crosstours began their first shifts on the assembly line at the automaker’s plant in East Liberty.

Honda has bet heavily on the popularity of the Crosstour, with an estimate of 40,000 vehicle sales per year. The crossover utility is based on the comfort and refinement of the Accord sedan platform, with the versatility of an SUV. The Crosstour will be spacious, without the sheer size and heft of a minivan.

The automaker has slated the new model to hit showrooms on Nov. 20, with a suggested retail price beginning at $29,670.

The Crosstour would mark the largest vehicle ever produced at the East Liberty plant, which also makes the Honda CR-V and Honda Element.

Much of the vehicle comes from other plants within Ohio. A nearby engine plant in Anna supplies the V-6 engine for the Crosstour, while transmissions are arriving from a plant in Russells Point.
